Overview

Chagga villages are the area under the roof of the highest mountain in Africa, Mt. Kilimanjaro. The villages composing this area are surrounded by beautiful natural vegetation, some human crop farming activities such banana trees and coffee plantations as well as animal keeping (i.e. cow, goats and other breeds). The Chagga village area is also comprised of different tribes and cultures but the main tribe remains Chagga people followed by Maasai and other indigenous.

Exploring this area will give you a wonderful experience and life time memories especially when cycling will take you off the road, going deeper in villages that cannot be easily reached by car.

Itinerary

  • Start: Moshi

    End: Ma Village

    We will start our bike ride from One Bike shop towards Machame Village which is located in the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro.

    Today, we will cycle along the Karanga River and see the Chagga lifestyle where Chagga tribes still grow coffee as a source of income and banana trees as a source of food. We will then end our bike tour at Machame cultural tourism where we will have a hot lunch, a coffee making-process tour and a short walk around the village. We will then spend the night in this beautiful traditional village!

  • Start: Machame Village

    End: Machame Village

    We start our bike ride from Machame cultural tourism towards Mama Rosa cultural tourism on Machame Village which is located in the slopes of Mt Kilimanjaro. The viewpoint at Nshara. Thereafter head down towards Mama Rosa cultural tourism for a lunch, cultural activities and rest.

    Distance: 14 km / 9 mi

    Time: 1-2 hrs

  • Start: Machame Village

    End: Kikuletwa hot springs

    Today our bike tour will last 2-3 hours and we will head towards Kwasadala, via Deka Bruins Plantation and German ruins. A vehicle will be waiting for us at Kwasadala, ready to transfer us to the Kikuletwa hot springs in the Rudugai area, where we will enjoy a swim and relax while sharing memorable experiences of our tour.

    Terrain: Downhill

    Distance: 18 km - 11 mi

    Time: 2-3 hrs

    Overnight: Camping at the hot springs

  • Start: Kikuletwa hot springs

    End: One Bike Shop

    Today we will start our ride early in the morning towards Moshi where we will end at One Bike Shop. We will get to see the beautiful view of the Mount Kilimanjaro and enjoy the sunrise view along the way.
