Itinerary

  • You will be picked up from Kilimanjaro airport or any other arrival point by a One Bike guide who will welcome you and transfer you to your hotel. This day you will get all needed information and preparations for the trip. The rest of the day could be used for resting and exploring the city of Moshi.

  • Start: Moshi

    End: Maasai Village

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Machame gate, which is the starting point of our cycling trip. From there, dirty and gravel road will first take us through rain forests and banana and coffee plantations, homes of the Chagga people. As we are heading west, we will find ourselves on a windy part of the mountain with more open-air plains, and acacia woodlands. This is the land of Maasai people, where we will be able to experience the differences among different tribes and their cultures in Tanzania. We will pass by Ngabobo and Tinga Tinga village and drive on the border of the National park, crossing the paths and native lands of different animals. We will then spend the night in a traditional Maasai-hut at the Maasai village.

    Distance: 81 km / 50 mi

  • Start: Maasai Village

    End: Matadi

Today we will be cycling through the Sinya and Ngasurai open plains, which serve as a wildlife corridor for animals moving from Amboseli National Park in Kenya to the Enduimet wildlife management area in Tanzania. Today’s route will be completely off-the-beaten-path with no tarmac. If it is a clear day we will be able to see magnificent views of Mt.Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, and Mt. Ol Doinyo Lengai. We will then arrive at Matadi village, where we will spend the night.

    Distance: 60 km / 37 mi

  • Start: Matadi

    End: Matadi

This day will be one of the most challenging of the tour. We will cycle uphill on the dirty and rocky road to climb the Shira Plateau of Mt. Kilimanjaro, one of its three peaks, and reach helipad at 3700 meters high. From there we will enjoy a beautiful view of the top of Kilimanjaro and its Kibo peak covered with snow on one side, and endless Maasai land on the other. After resting a little bit, we will enjoy the much easier ride down, back to Matadi village where we will be spending the night.

    Distance: 81 km / 50 mi

  • Start: Matadi

    End: Rongai

Today’s route will take us through the north-eastern side of Mt. Kilimanjaro which borders Kenya. We will pass through vibrant villages, farmlands, and finish at the entry of the Rongai trek route to Kilimanjaro in the Nalemoru village. The village is located on the border of the Rongai forest, conservation center for a lot of tree species that you can see. We will then spend the night at Rongai Village.

    Distance: 66 km / 41 mi

  • Start: Rongai

    End: Lake Chala

After a couple of tough days, this one will be more relaxing and enjoyable. We will take a smooth downhill ride to Lake Chala, unique caldera lake, fed by underground springs from Mt. Kilimanjaro. We will have time to enjoy the lake and its great diversity of life, forest, plants, and birds. We will then spend the night by the lake.

    Distance: 66 km / 41 mi

  • Start: Lake Chala

    End: Marangu

Today’s ride will be a more challenging route as we will cycle on the dirt and sometimes muddy road with a lot of uphills and downhills. We will go deep in the dense forest and feel its charms and its rich flora and fauna. The ride will end in Marangu village where we will spend the night.

    Distance: 35 km / 22 mi
