8 DAYS LEMOSHO ROUTE

OVERVIEW

Lemosho route is the most popular route up Kilimanjaro this being attributed to low traffic, beautiful scenery and a high summit success rate , the route approaches the mountain from the west side of the Mountain starting with a long drive from Moshi to Londorossi Gate about 4 hours. The terrain start at lush and through the rainforest and crosses the Shira Plateau on day 3 to connect with the Machame Route at Lava tower .there are chances of encountering wild animals on your first two days of the Trek.

ITINERARY

On this day, you will trek through thick mountain forest on a small trail with a moderate climb.
Altitude: 530m | Walking Time: 2-3h

On this day you will have views of the Shira Ridge and Kibo summit. The trek is continuously rising and falling terrain above the rain forest.
Altitude: 720 | Walking Time: 4-5h

On day 3 of trekking you will have great views by crossing Shira Ridge. This is a short trek with moderate rising through heat and moorland zone.
Altitude: 400m | Walking Time: 3-4h

Though on day 5, you will experience a steep climb over the “breakfast” – the Barranco Wall , you will be left with a great reward of scenic views of Kibo’s southern glacier.
Altitude gain: 100m and lose altitude of 60m | Walking Time: 3-4h

A short hike through rocky alpine desert. Don’t worry, this trek is not technically demanding.
On day 6, you’ll reach the base camp and rest for midnight’s summit hike.
Altitude gain: 600m | Walking Time: 3-4h

Very steep, long and possibly cold climb to Stella Point. Fantastic panorama at the crater ridge and at the summit. Descent relatively steep and long. Altitude might influence the climb.
Altitude gain 1250m  then go down by 2810m | Walking Time: 10-14h

You will end up the trek by descending through a lush rainforest.
Altitude loss: 1450m | Walking Time: 2-3h

CAN CHILDREN CLIMB KILIMANJARO?

Yes, but the minimum age limit set by Kilimanjaro National Park for children trekking to Uhuru Peak on Mount Kilimanjaro is 10 years old.

CAN YOU LEAVE EXCESS LUGGAGE BEHIND WHILST TREKKING KILIMANJARO?

Yes, any excess luggage you do not need to carry with you on Mount Kilimanjaro can be left at our office. You should keep valuable items with you at all times.

WHAT IS THE RECOMMENDED WEIGHT FOR OUR DAY PACK?

The recommended weight is a maximum of 7 kgs.

WHAT IS THE WEATHER LIKE ON MT KILIMANJARO?

Expect equatorial to arctic conditions on Mt Kilimanjaro. However, depending on the route chosen, you will begin your trek in dry plains or tropical forests with average temperatures between 25⁰C and 30⁰C. Expect various terrains and weather zones to arrive at the permanently snow-capped summit. You may experience rainfalls and sub-zero temperatures on your trek.

WHAT IS THE WEIGHT LIMIT FOR LUGGAGE ON KILIMANJARO CLIMBS?

Each porter can carry up to 20kg of luggage. Your duffle bag needs to be of 15kg weight so that we can add mattress and sleeping bag to make a total of 20kg.

DO WE TIP THE MOUNTAIN CREW?

Yes, it is expected and much appreciated. The amount depends on the amount of days, but can range from $150 and $300 per hiker. Tips are pooled and shared amongst the crew. Bring US dollar bills.
