Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Tanzania

You will be picked up at the Kilimanjaro International Airport (JRO) and transferred to the WeruWeru River Lodge in Moshi town situated at the foot of Mt. Kilimanjaro. Today you will meet your guides who will brief you about your upcoming tour and together you will do the bike fitting.

Day 2: Cycle from Machame Gate to OlpopongiMaasai Village | 81km

Morning after breakfast, you will be transferred to Machame gate, which is the starting point of your cycling trip. The route today will take us from the lush, green forest on the slopes of Kilimanjaro to the arid Maasai lands in the western side of the mountain. The route then diverts through the Ngabobo village closer to Mt. Meru, then continues through the open plains, en route to the TingaTinga village. The route today ends at the OlpopongiMaasai Village where you will be spending the night.

Day 3: Cycle from OlpopongiMaasai Village to Simba Farm Campsite | 60km

Today you will be cycling through the Sinya and Ngasurai open plains, which serve as a wildlife corridor for animals moving from Amboseli National Park to the open plains. Today’s route will be completely off-the-beaten-path with no tarmac and magnificent views of Mt.Kilimanjaro, Mt. Meru, and Mt. OlDoinyoLengai, on a clear day. The highlights of today’s journey will be the wildlife and expansive scenery. After cycling through the open plains, you will rejoin the main dirt road towards Simba Farm Campsite where you will be spending the night.

Day 4: Cycle from Simba Farm to Shira Plateau & back down to Simba Farm |81km

Today will be one of the most challenging days as you cycle to the helipad on the Shira Plateau of Mt. Kilimanjaro. The first half of the day will include a tough cycle up the plateau followed by a relaxed ride back down to the Simba Farm Campsite where you will be spending the night.

Day 5: Cycle from Simba Farm to Snow Cap Cottages in Rongai | 66km

Today’s route takes you through the north-eastern side of Mt. Kilimanjaro which borders Kenya. The route today ends up at the Nalemoru village on the lower farming slopes of the mountain. This vibrant village is the starting point of the Rongai route trek up Mt. Kilimanjaro. Today you will be spending the night at the Snow Cap Cottages.

Day 6: Cycle from Snow Cap Cottages to Lake Chala | 64km

After a couple of tough days with plenty of ascents behind us, today we will enjoy a smooth downhill ride to Lake Chala where you will be spending the night. Chala is a caldera lake located right on the border of Kenya and Tanzania. Today you will get to the camp early and get the your much needed rest for the challenging day ahead.

Day 7: Cycle from Lake Chala to Kidia| 88km

Today will mark another of the hardest days on this journey as you cycle from Lake Chala up the slopes of Mt. Kilimanjaro towards Kidia village. Today’s path will be full of uphills and downhills and will combine both dirt road and tarmac road. Since you will be cycling through the dense forest area, it is more likely that you will encounter rain (depending on the time of year) on certain sections and muddy paths. The ride ends KahawaShambani Campsite in Uru village where you will be spending the night.

Day 8: Cycle from Kidia to WeruWeru River Lodge via Mweka Gate | 34km

The final day of this cycling challenge takes you uphill towards Mweka Gate where you will meet with the team coming down from the mountain. You will then cycle down to Moshi via Kibosho village and finally end up at the WeruWeru River Lodge where you will be spending the night. The end of the tour will be marked by a celebration dinner at the lodge together with traditional dance performances.

Day 9: Depart Kilimanjaro

Today you will be able to relax at the lodge or head into Moshi town before your departure back to Mwanza. You will then be transferred to the airport to catch your flight back home.
